Endoscopic sclerotherapy and ligation for the treatment of grade II internal hemorrhoids

Abstract:

Objective

Compare the clinical efficacy and safety of endoscopic sclerotherapy and ligation for the treatment of grade II internal hemorrhoids, and provide guidance for the choice of treatment.

Methods

Clinical data of grade II internal hemorrhoids patients, underwent endoscopic sclerotherapy or ligation in No.1 central hospital of Baoding from Jan 2019to Jul 2020, were retrospectively analyzed. Clinical efficacy and postoperative complications of the two groups were compared.

Results

A total of 35 patients were included, with 27 cases in the sclerosis group and 8 cases in the ligation group. In terms of clinical efficacy: 14 patients cured, 10 patients improved and 3 patients were ineffective in the sclerosis group. The cured rate was 51.85% and the effective rate was 88.89% in the sclerosis group. 6 patients cured, 2 improved in the ligation group. The cured rate was 75.00%, and the effective rate was 100% in the ligation group. There was no significant difference in cured or effective ratio between the two groups (P>0.05). In terms of postoperative complications: the incidence of postoperative complications was 11.11% (3/27) in the sclerosis group and 25% (2/8) in the ligation group. There was no significant difference in complications between the two groups (11.11% vs 25%, P>0.05).

Conclusions

Both endoscopic sclerotherapy and endoscopic ligation obtained satisfying clinical effect in the treatment of grade II internal hemorrhoids, while further research with large sample data is needed.
